REARDON PREPARED FOR EXTRAORDINARY TOWNSVILLE SUPER X
Three-time Australian Supercross Champion, Dan Reardon has confirmed that he is fit and ready to race at Townsville's Dairy Farmers Stadium (QLD) for the penultimate round of the Australasian Super X Championship, this Saturday.
Reardon has assured both fans and rivals that he is unhurt despite the spectacular crash he suffered last weekend in Wollongong (NSW).
Trialling yet another world-first race format, Townsville will see the introduction of the "Man-on-Man" format in which two riders race one-on-one according to a draw, to progress through quarterfinals, semifinals and into a three-rider final in much the same way as a Tennis Grand Slam.
The Woodstock Geico Powersports Honda, Factory Connection rider has been training especially for the new format, with particular attention on starts and high-intensity, short sprint racing.
The 22-year-old Queenslander, Reardon is looking forward to racing in his home state and hopes that this weekend will see him battling it out all the way to the three-rider, four-lap final.
DAN REARDON:
"I'm absolutely 100% fit and ready to race, this weekend.
"I think last weekend's crash looked bigger than it was. I hit the deck hard and had the wind knocked out of me, but I wasn't injured.
"This weekend's format allows no room for mistakes - across two laps in the heats you've got no time to recover from a bad start or any kind of small error.
"With only a week between events, we can't change our training too dramatically because we've got another long 20-lap final coming up in Brisbane, but I've definitely been working more on my starts and building in some short, intense sprints for this week."

AUSSIE CHAMP CRASHES FROM PODIUM POSITION
Woodstock Geico Powersports Honda, Factory Connection's Dan Reardon again
showed his exceptional speed, but suffered a disappointing crash out of a
podium placing in tonight's round five of the Australasian Super X series at
Wollongong's WIN Stadium (NSW).
Welcoming a return to the traditional supercross 20-lap final, Queenslander
Reardon was confident after a positive week training around the Wollongong
region and was excited to contest the longer single-race format.
Getting the event off to a great start, 22-year-old Reardon qualified second
behind Chad Reed, and was again ready to challenge the World Champion in the
evening's main event.
Bolting into the lead on lap one of his heat race, Reardon set the fastest
lap on his #122 Honda machine and was unstoppable as he lapped the field up
to eighth place on his way to winning the heat.
Lining up for the 20-lap Main Event, current Australian Supercross Champion,
Reardon got off to an uncharacteristically bad start, running in sixth
place.
Crossing the start-finish line to complete the opening lap, Reardon had
already passed Troy Carroll for fifth place, and then made a pass on Cameron
Taylor on the subsequent lap to slip into fourth.
A mistake from Cheyne Boyd on lap six and Reardon pounced to steal third
place.
Applying pressure to local hero Jay Marmont, the Honda rider was dogged in
his chase for second place.
Caught out in the stutters while still in hot pursuit of Marmont on lap 12
of 20, Reardon hit the ground heavily and was unable to rejoin the race.
A disappointing blow to his championship battle, Reardon, who was closing in
on second place in the series, has now dropped to seventh in the standings,
but is determined to finish strongly and regain as much ground as possible
in the remaining two rounds.
Heading north to Reardon's home state, the Super X series will now travel
more than 2,000km in readiness for next Saturday's sixth round at
Townsville's Dairy Farmers Stadium (QLD) on 22 November.
DAN REARDON:
"Back to the original schedule with the 20-lap Main; I feeling good and was
excited to get out there.
"It was a great track - it flowed really well; although it was slippery with
the slight bit of rain during the heat race, and it was super hard pack as
well.
"Practice and qualifying went alright and I had a lot of fun in my heat
race.
"I felt like I was ready for the Main Event - as I said, I was having a lot
of fun.
"I got of to a bad start. I don't know what happened, I just fell back
straight out of the gate.
"So that left me mid-pack and I had to work hard to get back to where I was.
"I was third and hunting Marmont down and was feeling good at that point,
and then all of a sudden I just lost it through the whoops and it spat me
over the bars and I hit the deck pretty hard.
"I'm alright; a little sore, but the main thing was my wind was knocked out
of me and I couldn't rejoin.
"I'll bounce back. I'll have another solid week of practicing and training
like this week and get ready for Townsville."
